The brand watch model Ulysse Nardin

Ulysse Nardin is a household name among most watch lovers. However, the noble watches are not only very interesting for watch lovers. The watches are also ideal for athletes or divers. Watches of the brand can be recognized by the anchor in the name of the company logo. This is mainly due to the fact that the company is closely associated with shipping. The company's namesake, Ulyssee Nardin (1823-1876) also made a name for himself by producing accurate marine chronometers.

History of the company

The company was founded by Léonard Frédéric Nardin (b. 1792). According to records, he was the first watchmaker in his family. The watch factory was launched by his son Ulysee. In the early years, the company was able to develop well. It offered deck watches in addition to pocket watches, which were sold to the United Naval Observatory from 1906 to 1942. In 1982-83, the company was on the verge of insolvency. Within a few years, Rolf W. Schnyder succeeded in bringing the company back to the top of the Swiss watch manufacturers. His partner and friend Ludwig Oechslin's help in this endeavor was not inconsiderable. In 2011, Schnyder passed away after a sudden illness. The company was run in Schnyder's spirit for three years until it was sold to the French luxury goods company Kering in 2014.
