Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso

Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is an elegant watch for men and women that can withstand a lot. It is most notable for its unusual rectangular shape, where the actual watch is barely wider than the watchband. The straps are mostly made of leather or metal. Both in terms of metal straps and the watch cases themselves, there are variants made of resistant steel and also various precious metals. The dials are monochromatic, usually in plain white. An inner rectangle, centered on the hands, is enclosed by a white frame on which the hours are indicated in Arabic numerals. Due to the large difference in the height and width of the clock, the minute hand points only to the number 12 or 6 on the hour and half hour, whereas it covers the number 3 or 9 on the quarter hours.

Reversible?

Don't worry, the name Reverso doesn't come from the fact that the watch sometimes runs backwards. It rather refers to a protective function intended for use during sports. In that case, the watch can be flipped over so that the delicate watch glass rests on your skin and the durable case faces outward. This way, your watch won't get scratched or even broken if it ever takes a knock or bump. Unlike other watches, the Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso is comfortable to wear even in this position and does not feel pinched.

An international watch

The Jaeger-LeCoultre Reverso was developed by Swiss watchmaker Jaeger-LeCoultre in the early 1930s. However, it was not intended for use in Switzerland, but for polo matches in India. The first wearers of the watch were neither Swiss nor Indian, but British officers who were stationed in India and spent their free time there with the typical English sport. They apparently played so hard that the clubs repeatedly came into contact with the wrists of other players and some watches were broken in the process.
