History of the Blancpain brand

The Blancpain label was founded by Jehan-Jacques Blancpain in 1735 in Villeret. Starting in 1815, the great-grandson Frédéric-Louis Blancpain initiated the first mass production. In 1926, Blancpain, in collaboration with John Harwood, launched the first wristwatch on the watch market with an automatic winding movement. The Blancpain brand first developed a diver's watch with a mechanical movement and a unidirectional bezel to indicate the exact diving time, which was made for the French military/combat swimmer unit from 1953. The Blancpain manufacture also produces one of the world's most complicated wristwatches (Blancpain 1735). This exemplary masterpiece includes a tourbillon and automatic winding, a chronograph including a drag hand, as well as a minute repeater and a perpetual calendar. This model is produced only once per year. The Blancpain company emphasizes in its advertising slogans that no quartz watch has ever left the house and no such model will be produced in the future.
